What it is
Schulich Leader Scholarships are for graduating students going into science, technology, engineering or math at one of 20 partner universities, including UBC.
Engineering winners get $120,000 over four years and science, technology or math winners get $100,000. About 100 are given each year.
Each high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student. Schools that had a 2026 Schulich Leader can nominate two.
Students must be Canadian citizens. The program looks for entrepreneurial, leadership-minded students and gives strong weight to financial need. It does not consider students aiming for medicine or other health careers, academia, or activism-focused careers.
A good fit if: Grade 12 students heading into engineering, computer science, math or science who have led projects or started things.
How to register
- Your child can't apply alone. Tell the school counsellor in the fall that your child wants to be the school's nominee, and ask how the school chooses.
- The school submits its nominee by January 27, 2027. The nominee then gets a link to the application.
- The application and both reference letters are due February 17, 2027.
How to prepare
- Check that the university program your child wants is on the eligible STEM list on the Schulich site.
- Think of three top achievements and a project that shows initiative. These are what the short answers ask for.
For grade-by-grade options see Grade 12.
