What it is

For full-time Grade 11 students in Canada who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, with a household net income of $80,000 or less and at least a 70% average.

Students should show integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.

There are 160 Canadian Scholarships of $10,000 and 10 National Entrepreneurial Scholarships of $25,000.

A good fit if: Grade 11 students from lower-income families who've kept their grades up through hard times.

How to register

  1. Apply online on the Horatio Alger Canada website while your child is in Grade 11.
  2. The posted window is January 1 – March 31. The page doesn't give the year, so check in December that the 2027 round is open.

How to prepare

  • Gather a recent report card and proof of household income.
  • Have your child think about a real challenge they've worked through. That's what the award looks for.

Common questions

Why Grade 11 and not Grade 12?

The Canadian Scholarships are for students enrolled full time in Grade 11. The Quebec scholarship is the exception, for final-year CEGEP students.

What's the income limit?

$80,000 or less in annual net household income.
