What it is

Students in French as a second language programs anywhere in Canada write a poem in French.

Grades 1–3 write a haiku or an acrostic. Grades 4–12 write a free poem of 15 to 20 lines.

The top three in each grade group win a gift card: $50 for Grades 1–3, up to $150 for Grades 10–12.

A good fit if: French immersion and Core French students who like writing.

How to register

  1. The submission form opens in November 2026 on the CPF website.
  2. Submit by February 1, 2027.

How to prepare

  • Read French poems together and talk about the words you like.
  • Write a draft, then read it out loud to check the rhythm.

Common questions

Can a Grade 1 French immersion student enter?

Yes. Grades 1–3 can write a short haiku or acrostic poem.

Is it only for Quebec?

No. It's run by CPF's Quebec and Nunavut branch but open to FSL students across Canada.
