What it is
There is a Junior contest for Grades 8–10 and a Senior contest for Grades 11–12.
The first round is written at school: 12 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. Any number of students can write it.
Schools then send top students to a final round at a nearby college or university: 2 hours, with 10 multiple-choice and 5 long-answer questions.
In 2026, Metro Vancouver hosts were Capilano University, Douglas College and Langara College. The 2027 host list may differ.
A good fit if: BC high school students who want a local contest with an in-person final close to home.
How to register
- Students enter through their school. The school chooses who writes and gets the papers from its host college.
- Ask the math department in January or February whether your school takes part.
How to prepare
- Practise multiple-choice questions under a 45-minute time limit.
- CEMC past contests at cemc.uwaterloo.ca/resources/past-contests are good free practice.
For grade-by-grade options see Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11, Grade 12.
