Advanced Placement (AP) exams in BC schools

Students in AP courses must be signed up for the May exams by November 13, 2026 or pay a late fee. 2027 exams run May 3–7 and May 10–14.

What it is

Some BC secondary schools offer AP courses. The course is taught at school, but university credit depends on the May exam, scored 1 to 5.

The ordering deadline is in the fall, months before the exam. Exams ordered after November 13 cost an extra $40 each, and cancelling after that date also costs $40.

UBC gives first-year credit for a score of 4 or better on approved AP exams. Other universities set their own rules.

A good fit if: Students in AP courses who want first-year university credit or a stronger application.

How to register

  1. Your child joins their AP class in My AP using the code from the teacher, then signs up for the exam the way the school asks.
  2. Ask the school's AP coordinator for their deadline. Many schools set one earlier than November 13.

How to prepare

  • Ask the AP teacher for practice exams, and plan study time for early May.
  • Check UBC's AP credit table before choosing which exams to write.
