What it is

For strong students who meet UBC's admission requirements and whose personal, family or financial situation makes the award necessary.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, coming straight from high school or transferring, applying to a direct-entry program.

It's separate from the Presidential Scholars Award, and students can apply for both.

The award value isn't stated on the official page.

A good fit if: Grade 12 students with strong grades applying to UBC whose families can't easily cover the cost.

How to register

  1. Apply to UBC and complete the Entrance Award application by December 1.
  2. Only the first-choice campus and degree are considered.

How to prepare

  • Ask a reference who knows your child's character and financial situation in early November.
  • Fill in the parent or guardian financial form together. It's required for students in high school within the past 48 months.

For grade-by-grade options see Grade 12.

Common questions

Can my child apply for this and the Presidential Scholars Award?

Yes. UBC says students can apply for both if they meet the criteria.

Is a parent form always needed?

It's required for students who attended high school in the past 48 months. Students not in contact with a parent can explain that in their description of circumstances.
