What it is

Students in Grades 6, 7 or 8 work in teams of four.

There are four events: a 15-question team paper, a crossnumber puzzle, a logic puzzle and a math relay.

CEMC says the focus is participation and teamwork, so it's a low-pressure first contest.

A good fit if: Middle school students who like puzzles and working in a group. Good for a class or club.

How to register

  1. A teacher orders the materials through the CEMC Contest Supervisor Portal. Students can't register themselves.
  2. The ordering deadline is May 27, 2027.

How to prepare

  • Try the Gauss contest or CEMC Problem of the Week together during the year.
  • Past contests and solutions are free at cemc.uwaterloo.ca/resources/past-contests.
