What it is

The Canada-Wide Science Fair is the national final for student science and engineering projects in Grades 7–12.

There is no direct entry. Students qualify by winning at their regional fair. The Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair sends its top 17 students.

Youth Science Canada says nearly $2 million in prizes were offered in 2026.

A good fit if: Students in Grades 7–12 with a serious science or engineering project.

How to register

  1. Enter your regional fair first. For Greater Vancouver, the 2027 fair is April 8–10 at UBC.
  2. Students chosen at the regional fair are put forward to the CWSF by the regional fair.

How to prepare

  • Start a project in the fall. A strong project usually takes months.
  • Practise explaining the project to a judge in a few minutes.

Can my child enter the CWSF directly?

No. Students must win at their regional STEM fair first.

How many students go from Greater Vancouver?

The GVRSF says its top 17 students advance to the 2027 CWSF.
